In 2009 there are several international conventions, congresses and big events in Istanbul, therefore many hotels are already fully booked or will apply very high charges during these periods. Especially 5 star hotels and most of the hotels at Taksim Square have Black-out dates for many events.

Here are some major Black-out dates in 2009, you should add 2 or 3 days at the beginning and the end of the event because hotels consider the whole period as a highly-request dates.

16-22 March World Water Forum
20 May UEFA Cup Final
5-7 June Formula 1 Races
5-8 October IMF Convention

Also, there will be many other dates and periods during which it will be difficult to find a room in Istanbul (such as New Years, Easter, Religious holidays, other big conventions etc).
